The Lower Tiers understands that Brentford centre-back Chanse Headman is attracting growing Football League interest, with Harrogate Town and Bromley both in talks over a permanent move as the highly rated defender looks set to leave the Premier League club this window.
The 20-year-old has enjoyed a rapid rise since joining Brentford in February 2023 from semi-professional side Walton & Hersham. One of three Under-18 signings made that month, Headman arrived with raw potential and physical presence, initially putting pen to paper on a six-month deal. His early impact quickly convinced the Bees’ coaching staff of his value, earning him a one-year professional contract and a clear pathway within the B team setup.
Known for his commanding, aggressive and ball-playing style, Headman has developed into a key figure at Jersey Road. During the 2024/25 season, his second full campaign with the club, he made 37 appearances for the B team, operating predominantly in a back three and showcasing growing maturity in possession and defensive duels.
He also posed a threat at set pieces, scoring twice across the campaign — netting against Fleetwood Town and later in the Robert Rowan Invitational versus Tottenham Hotspur U21s. His attacking contribution was underlined by an impressive 68 per cent success rate in offensive duels, highlighting a defender increasingly comfortable impacting both ends of the pitch.
Headman has previously credited B team head coach Neil MacFarlane and assistant Sam Saunders for accelerating his development, describing Brentford as “a family, not just a place for work,” and acknowledging the role they played in building his confidence and belief.
A loan move to Maidenhead United in December has further boosted his profile, with his performances catching the eye of EFL clubs. With Harrogate Town and Bromley now pushing for a permanent deal, all signs point towards Headman taking the next step into senior Football League football — a move that could mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his promising career.
