Brian Barry-Murphy, the new Cardiff City boss, after waiting a prolonged period of time for the announcement. Here’s a small introduction into Brian Barry Murphy’s style of play.
The 46-year-old in his coaching career has previously been the first team manager at Rochdale from 2019-2021, where he kept them in League One, before carrying out a three-year stint at Manchester City’s elite development squad, where he developed some of their academy products, like Oscar Bobb, for example.
Most recently, before being appointed as the new Cardiff Manager, Brian was part of Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s backroom staff at relegated side Leicester City, so as a result of this, the Bluebirds had to pay a fee for their new boss.
The Irishman has the ability to bring an attractive style of play to the Bluebirds, with his style of play being possession-based, as we saw at Rochdale, with them having the highest passing completion rate in League One within the 19/20 campaign.
The newly appointed manager also urges his players to be brave in and out of possession. As we can see with Brian playing an attacking 4-3-3 formation at his time at Rochdale and at Manchester City’s development squad.
This style of play that he implements will benefit Cardiff, especially their youngsters, as the possession style is played at a higher tempo compared to the more traditional possession-based style of football.
Brian Barry-Murphy will bring League One experience to Cardiff because of his spell as manager at Rochdale which will Suit Cardiff’s aim of automatic promotion back to the Championship, as well as experience in youth development as shown at Manchester City.
This can support the younger players in the first team and bringing through youth from the academy which Cardiff has showed intent to do with bringing in the likes of winger Cian Ashford from the academy.
But he can also bring much more to the Bluebirds. He will offer a fresh start to the club, bringing much-needed enthusiasm and a vibrant style of football that meets the needs of modern-day football.
This will bring a positive effect to Cardiff as it will catalyse a buzz around the place with fans being excited about the style of football.
