Huddersfield Town vs Bolton Wanderers Preview and Prediction

Huddersfield Town host Bolton Wanderers on Thursday night in League One, here's all you need to know about the matchup.

Huddersfield Town host Bolton Wanderers in a League One clash between two of the pre-season promotion hopefuls.

Lee Grant’s side are looking to get back to winning ways after losing to Stockport County before the international break and get back into the play off positions.

It’s similar story for Steven Schumacher’s Bolton who, after a strong run of form at home, have failed to win any away games this season including the sides last game, losing 3-0 to Burton Albion.

It’s been fairly even between the two cross Pennines teams in recent years, with Huddersfield and Bolton trading wins over the last couple of seasons. It hasn’t always been as close between the two, with the Trotters losing to Town five times between 2014 and 2024.

In the pairs last matchup, it was Bolton who had the better of the two teams, winning 1-0 thanks to an Aaron Collins goal, giving local boy Julian Darby his first win as interim boss.

The two sides will face each other again in no time, with the Wanderers being drawn against Huddersfield in the FA Cup, with that game taking place on November 1.

Key Stats

  • Huddersfield Town have only scored two goals in their last five games.
  • Bolton Wanderers have won their previous two matches against Huddersfield Town.
  • Huddersfield Town have kept the most clean sheets in League One with a total of six so far this season.
  • Bolton Wanderers have scored nine goals in their last five fixtures.
  • Huddersfield Town’s Alfie May has created the most big chances for the club with a total of three.
  • Bolton Wanderers Mason Burstow is League One’s top scorer with seven.

Huddersfield Town Team News

There is an air of pressure around Huddersfield Town as they head into this game. Lee Grant delivered some exciting football at the start of the season but form as faltered and the goal of promotion no longer looks as close as it once did.

After losing to Stockport County, the Terriers will be desperate to take advantage of Bolton’s awful away form and get back to sitting in the win column.

On the injury front, Mickel Miller and Anthony Evans have been in training and may be in the squad for this game, but will most likely make appearances from the bench.

Elsewhere Jack Whatmough, Marcus McGuane, Radinio Balker, Zepiqueno Redmond, Will Alves and Herbie Kane will all miss the game.

Possible Lineup

Lee Nicholls (GK), Lasse Sorenson, Josh Feeney, Joseph Low, Ruben Roosken, Ryan Ledson, David Kasumu, Marcus Harness, Ben Wiles, Leo Castledine, Alfie May

Bolton Wanderers Team News

Bolton Wanderers head over to Huddersfield in desperate need of ending their awaydays difficulties. Schumacher’s side are yet to win away from home and if they don’t soon, promotion could be a pipe dream.

After losing embarrassingly to Burton Albion, the Wanderers are in need of some good news and whilst the returns of Eoin Toal and Josh Sheehan from international duty are welcome, there is some extended bad news on the injury front.

Both Ethan Erhahon and Thierry Gale, who missed the Burton game, will now be out for at least four weeks with injuries.

Elsewhere Jordi Osei-Tutu could be involved whilst Victor Adeboyejo remains out as he recovers from a long-term injury.

Possible Lineup

Teddy Sharman-Lowe (GK), Cyrus Christie, Chris Forino, Eoin Toal, Max Conway, Xavi Simons, Aaron Morley, Amario Cozier-Duberry, Marcus Forss, John McAtee, Mason Burstow

Huddersfield Town vs Bolton Wanderers Prediction

Both Huddersfield and Bolton come with a lot of hype but have never really met expectation this season. In some ways, for both sides it’s promotion or bust and winning games like this could be the points that gets you into the play offs or leaves you out of it.

Like the Wanderers, Huddersfield are strong at home and their defensive record speaks for itself. Despite this wins haven’t been all that easy to come from but the Trotters, who haven’t won away from home, could be the correct target to get up and running again.

Schumacher’s Bolton need to end the away hoodoo as soon as possible and this game could be a statement win, but it won’t be easy. Wanderer’s will need to score first and hope their leaky defence can hold up if they have any chance of points in West Yorkshire.

This game could go either way but I have Huddersfield winning it by a goal as the Trotters wait for an away win goes on.

Predictions: Huddersfield Town 1-0 Bolton Wanderers
