Ipswich Town Interview: The New Season With Jenson Long

Ipswich Town finished 18th in the Premier League last season resulting in the Tractor Boys being relegated to the EFL Championship. Now, Kieran McKenna’s side will arguably be looking for promotion in the 2025-26 season.

Ahead of their opening game against Birmingham City this weekend, I sat down with Lower Tiers writer and Ipswich Town fan Jenson Long (JLong_Journo on X) to talk about all things Ipswich Town in an Ipswich Town interview.

Before we start, we would like to take a moment to thank Jenson for taking part in this Ipswich Town interview. His insights aim to give you an accurate reflection of the club currently.

The Ipswich Town Interview

Question 1: Relegation From The Premier League Isn’t Great. But, Can It Be Used To Improve The Squad Even Further?

“I think relegation from the Premier League will allow us to build an even stronger squad. The plan of those within the club will be laid out to our targets, and the prospect is real to grab some true talent this window.”

Question 2: How Would You Summarize Last Season?

“Last season was tough. We didn’t set up correctly against the established PL sides, and that cost us. Defensively we struggled and in games we could never really find that attacking cutting edge. Ultimately it wasn’t great all round.”

Question 3: What Would You Rate Town’s Transfer Window Out Of Ten?

“So far, I’d rate our transfer window a solid seven out of ten. We have made some good quality additions, but there is room to improve still alongside some big losses.”

Question 4: What Has Been Ipswich’s Best Signing Of The Summer?

“Our best signing of the summer for me, thus far, has got to be Ashley Young. He seems fit, ready and also a big leader, which could be crucial in helping us head back up.”

Question 5: Is There An Area Of The Squad That Still Needs Improving? If So, Which Area?

“The area we need to improve on has got to be CDM/CM. We’re short in that area, massively. We’ve just lost Morsy, and that only leaves us three in a system that requires us to always have two on the pitch.”

Question 6: Are Ipswich Town Prepared For Next Season?

“At this stage, we’re not fully ready for next season at all. We still need some big signings to come in and bolster the squad further.”

Question 7: What Do You Think Of The Club Currently?

“Everyone from top to bottom of the football club is excellent. We’re ran by top owners, and behind them we’ve got a good group of people on the board. There hasn’t been a better time at ITFC than this for a long time.”

Question 8: Is Kieran McKenna The Right Man To Bring Ipswich Back To Success?

“McKenna has built his squad for next season around his plans and what he wants. He’s shown he can bring success with different players, taking us up twice. 100% the right man for success next season!”

Question 9: Who Is Ipswich Town’s Best Player Currently?

“Our best player that’s in the ranks, there is a couple of good shouts. Would have to say that Leif Davis and Dara O’Shea would be joint top of the list. They are both massive players to have and they provide so much at both ends of the pitch.”

Question 10: Can You Give Me Your Prediction For How Ipswich Town Will Do Next Season?

“I think with another three or four big, spot on transfers, we 100% should be back up in the Premier League next year. I back the boys for automatic promotion back into the top flight.”
