After a season which has been hampered by injury and shoulder discomfort, Frank Lampard has declared how Jack Rudoni is back in fine form as the Sky Blues regained form following a slight wobble at the top.
After scoring three goals in his last three appearances, he has helped Coventry City return to the top of the Championship with two decisive match-winning goals.
The Sky Blues gaffer was quick to praise his player who admits he hasn’t been at his best lately due to a lack of match fitness and dealing with a shoulder injury too.
Lampard said: “Rudi’s [Jack Rudoni] performance [against Stoke] was a really high level in the first half when he was receiving between the lines.
“Rudi, individually, his feet, his awareness – he is a deserved winner.
“He absolutely deserves it for his all-round performance. He’s back. When he hasn’t been at his best it’s been because of the injuries and the bits that he’s had – he’s a top player.“
Rudoni lit up the Championship in the second half of last season and helped guide the Sky Blues to a 5th place finish and reach the playoffs for the second time in three years.
He ended last season with 10 goals and 13 assists in the Championship following his summer move from relegated Huddersfield Town – but is yet to play in the Premier League.
When mentioned whether Rudoni is a Premier League player in-waiting, Lampard said: “Yeah, I’ve thought that for a while because of what he did in the second half of last season – to say he is a top Championship player is clear.
“I feel like he will get that opportunity to play in the Premier League – we know the step up is big but he has talent that we feel can progress towards that and obviously we hope it’s with us.”
Obviously, Rudoni has had a difficult season impacted by injuries and other unexplained reasons which has meant he has not yet reached the impressive levels he got up to last season.
However, he has started to make his way of playing effortless again in the last few weeks and if he can stay fit, then it is a match made in heaven for the Sky Blues to reach England’s top division.
