Speaking to the media after the 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers, Watford Manager Javi Gracia called for arrivals “as soon as possible” and stated that his side has “problems in defence”.

Kwadwo Baah

One of Watford’s best players, Kwadawo Baah, has struggled for minutes under Javi Gracia, playing an average of 30.4 minutes under Gracia’s management.

Fans questioned Gracia’s decision not to bring Kwadwo Baah alongside Nestroy Irankunda when he was brought on with around 30 minutes to go,  and when asked about Kwadwo Baah’s late arrival with 10 minutes to go, Gracia said it was down to only having “one window”

“We were waiting to see how James and Jeremy felt at that moment because we were not sure that they could see out the whole game”.

“It was something we were waiting until the last ten minutes, in which they told us they could see out the game. Then, at that moment, we brought on KB (Baah).

However, when asked about both Kwadwo Baah and Nestroy Irankunda, he stated that they work well together and are a “good option” With Baah on the right and Irankunda on the left-hand side

Defensive Stability:

Javi Gracia called out at his side’s defensive performance, claiming his side’s performance was “soft”.

Losing Max Alleyne back to Manchester City was a massive blow to their defence after having gained stability with 3 clean sheets in four before Alleyne’s recall, and with his partner Mattie Pollock coming off injured in the week against Portsmouth, Watford could need some new additions here.

When asked about his side’s defensive setup for the goal, he said, “We relaxed. It’s something we have to learn about because if they hadn’t scored then, we could have managed the game better”.

“In this moment, we have these centre-backs and these are players that we have to compete with for all of the games, the next games as well”.

When asked about reinforcements, he said “The club are working on transfers, and I hope we have some new players as soon as possible”.

“ We are competing many games without players to change, and it’s a crucial moment of the season”.

Watford host Swansea in a 3:00 kick-off in their next match at Vicarage Road and will be looking for reinforcements by then.
