Bolton Wanderers Agree Fee For Gambian Midfielder

Bolton Wanderers have agreed a fee for 6ft 4 midfielder Jesper Ceesay.

According to the Bolton News a fee of £350,000 has been agreed which will see the player out of the last six months of his contract and able to move to England.

News outlets in Sweden confirmed the move, with the IFK Norrkoping’s sporting director admitting the player helped formulate the move.

“Jesper has wanted to make a move abroad for a while and it is true that we have agreed with a club, I will not comment on which one it is.” Director Magni Fannberg told Sportbladet.

Swedish media announced Wanderers interest but the Ceesay’s club, IFK, released a statement following their midweek draw with Djurgarden suggesting the player would stay in Sweden.

Despite the club’s stance, things are believed to have changed with the player ready to move to Bolton.

After missing out on the playoffs last season, boss Steven Schumacher made a big point of the lack of physicality in this Wanderers side, most notably in midfield.

The club have already added Xavi Simons from Hull City, who brings a new level of hard tackling in the centre and at 6ft 4, Ceesay can offer a different level of physicality alongside being superb at winning aerial duels.

Ceesay, who can also play left-back, has played 10 games for IFK this season, scoring and assisting once. In total the 23-year-old has played over 60 games in the Swedish top division.

Should the deal progress as expected, Ceesay would be Boltons six signing of the window after Sam Dalby, Teddy Sharman-Lowe, Charlie Warren, Richard Taylor and Simons.

Wanderers still after Irish Striker

As reported earlier, Bolton are still expected to return for Irish striker Johnny Kenny.

Celtic rejected a provisional offer of £500,000 stating that their evaluation of the player stood at £1million.

Wanderers are expected to come back with at least one bid for the forward before taking their business elsewhere. They still believe he is a perfect fit for their attack as they look to get out of League One.
