AFC Wimbledon currently sit in the middle of the table in the EFL League One so far this campaign, with them positioned 14th on 38 points.

Now, with the remainder of the season inevitable, AFC Wimbledon will be looking to climb up the table and improve their position in the table within the remainder of the season.

Ahead of their next fixture against Barnsley on the 14th of February, I sat down with Josh Lamey to talk all things Dons in an AFC Wimbledon interview.

Before we start, I would like to thank Wimbledon fan, Josh, for taking part in this AFC Wimbledon interview. His responses were informative and aim to give you an insight into AFC Wimbledon as a club currently.

The AFC Wimbledon Interview

AFC Wimbledon currently sits 14th in the league. How do you feel your team has performed so far this season?

“We’re definitely overachieving on our original pre-season predictions.

“The main goal was to stay in the league, and at times this season, we’ve been competing right at the top.

“However, there’s still a lot of football to be played, so if we stay up, that will be an incredible season for the club.”

Compared to your feelings before the season started, would you say your thoughts now are more positive or negative?

“That’s a difficult topic at the minute because there are many more positives but also many more negatives around the club.

“Our league and Vertu Trophy performances have been commendable, although behind the scenes, our finances are rumoured to be in disarray, so I think we should take each problem as it comes, but there are definitely good and bad things coming for us.”

Who would you say has been your best player so far this campaign?

“Undoubtedly, Marcus Browne.

“He’s shone this season, being our top goal-scorer, but it’s also his creativity, energy and versatility in the final third that we miss dearly when he doesn’t play.

“Could put in a shout for Steve Seddon, who has been nothing short of reliable since returning, but I believe Browne has had the bigger impact.”

Who has surprised you the most this season, and why?

“A few of the young lads have been exceptional this season.

“Before his injury, Aron Sasu was a real bright spark during a poor run for the side and since then, Junior Nkeng has come on leaps and bounds.

“Should both hang around come the summer, they’ll undoubtedly have a huge contribution next season.”

How do you feel your team has performed in cup competitions this season?

“Not the best.

“The FA Cup and Carabao Cups are always a bit of a write off because of the competition in the early rounds, but it would’ve been nice to progress and get a big home/away tie again.

“The FA Cup exit to National League Gateshead was a real disappointment, but partially made up for the fact we’re now in the quarter final of the Vertu Trophy, so still something to cling on to.”

Do you think your manager, Johnnie Jackson, has done a good job this season, and why?

“Though some of the lineups and substitutions have been naive at times, Jackson has generally done a brilliant job so far.

“He has adapted his tactics to League One standard, and has got the best out of our side, utilising height and defensive stability as a foundation for our successful moments.”

Which position has been the most beneficial to your side this season?

“Defensively, we have been immense this season, continuing the momentum from last year.

“The back three of Lewis Johnson and Ogundere has proven to be a working formula, and when we’re on it defensively, we can be one of the most cohesive and hard to break down teams in the league.”

Which position do you feel has held your team back the most this campaign?

“Probably in attack.

“Since Matty Stevens got injured, he hasn’t matched the output he had earlier in the season, which has been frustrating.

“If we could spread our goals throughout the team in a more even fashion, that would be beneficial to everyone.”

What do you believe to be a realistic aspiration for your team in the closing stages of the season?

“Just staying up to be honest. Everyone associated with Wimbledon would see that as a monumental achievement.”
