Key Chesterfield Midfielder To Miss Playoff Push

Paul Cook has confirmed that attacking midfielder Armando Dobra, the Spireites’ 2022 permanent signing, will miss games against AFC Wimbledon and the Bradford game which is taking place over the Easter weekend as Dobra has picked up a groin injury.

The 24 year old, who went off at Fleetwood with a groin issue- which he is set to miss the next two games. He has made 49 appearances in all competitions for the Spireites this season contributing 12 goals as well as this assisting on 2 occasions with this current season being his best season at Chesterfield.

The former Albanian youth international, who is also set to be out of contract in 2026, has played a crucial part in the Spireites attacking threat this season with 39 chances created which puts him in the 92nd percentile also completing 51 successful dribbles- which may have contributed in 165 touches in the opposition box.

How will Chesterfield replace the attacking Midfielder?

The 32 year old, Oliver Banks who has played at Chesterfield for 3 seasons came on to replace Armando Dobra in their latest 3-0 victory against Fleetwood and played 59 minutes in which he completed 28/35 accurate passes, this shows that Banks could potentially fill in for his teammate Dobra over the next two games.

Paddy Madden is also an option having played behind Will Grigg and as the second striker within Cook’s system during the current season with 8 chances created whilst having 30 touches in the opposition boxes and managing to score 5 goals and ones assist within 25 appearances this season. Finally Dylan Duffy can also act as a replacement for Dobra with the 22 year old having played in attacking midfield both at his time at Lincoln and whilst in his first season with Chesterfield.

All of these players can be seen to be ideal replacements for the former Ipswich youth academy man in the next two or games or maybe the rest of the season?

Writer’s View

Armando Dobra has proven to be a significant part of Chesterfield’s attack and squad being  a starter for the most of the season. His Injury has the potential to be a big blow for the side but I do think that the Spireites have the right amount of cover within the likes of Banks, Madden and Duffy to fill his position for the next two games as Chesterfield continue their playoff push.
