Frank Lampard Reveals Thoughts On Star’s England Future

After joining Coventry City on loan in the Summer transfer window, Carl Rushworth has firmly cemented himself as the best goalkeeper in the league under Frank Lampard as he begins to set his goals internationally.

The 24-year-old has kept 12 clean sheets and has single-handedly kept the Sky Blues in games throughout the season and has secured many points for his side which sit five points clear at the top of the Championship.

After a successful season so far, his loan manager has backed him to go on to even bigger things as he progresses his career and is expecting to be a Premier League regular next season at Brighton or elsewhere.

Manager’s Belief

Lampard has been very honest but complimentary when talking about Rushworth and his potential international career, he said: “He made a big save late, right, but other than that there were lots of things that were sort of bouncing into him that can sometimes squirm away and he was fantastic.

His levels of performance have been outstanding and [are] only growing now – the fans love him and you see that at the end.

“He’s an easy maintenance player, just really professional – He’s a highly, highly talented goalkeeper and he can go as far as he wants to go.”

International Football A Reality?

When asked whether the on-loan goalkeeper can go on to play international football for England, he showed his believe in Rushworth: “Oh yeah, for sure. I mean, without telling any England manager what to do.

“I know Jordan Pickford who I worked with [at Everton] and is an incredible goalkeeper, and the goalkeepers are around him. But Rushy, just to isolate him, he’s got absolutely the talent to be able to play for his country, in my opinion.

Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale and James Trafford are the three goalkeepers expected to be in the World Cup squad this summer, however Rushworth could sneak in if an injury occurs to any of them.

“He just needs to keep working but the levels he’s playing at are really, really good and he’s been a big signing for us.”

Rushworth has started every league game under Frank Lampard this season and will continue to start between the posts as they look to see out their promotion to the Premier League.
