Leicester City are set to strengthen their defensive options on the final day of the transfer window, adding experience to their back line.

Leicester City are set to strengthen their defensive options on the final day of the winter transfer window, with a move for Newcastle United centre-back Jamaal Lascelles reportedly agreed.
Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has confirmed that Newcastle have approved the deal, with the 32-year-old due to undergo a medical ahead of a proposed move to the King Power Stadium. The Foxes have until Monday at 7pm to complete the deal.
Lascelles has been a stalwart at St James’ Park since joining in 2014, making 253 appearances and scoring 15 goals over his 12-year tenure.
However, his game time has been limited in recent seasons, with just two appearances this term. Out of contract in the summer, the former England youth international is expected to seek a fresh challenge, with several Championship clubs reportedly interested.
Leicester see Lascelles as more than just a short-term addition. The experienced centre-back, who has played over 300 senior matches in his career, would provide much-needed depth and competition at the back.
His leadership qualities and presence in the dressing room are also expected to have a positive influence on a squad navigating a difficult spell in the Championship.
The Derby-born defender came through the Nottingham Forest academy, representing the club at multiple youth levels before breaking into the first team.
He also spent time on loan at Stevenage early in his career, gaining valuable experience that helped shape him into the accomplished player he is today.
Lascelles would likely fill the void left by Wout Faes’ exit earlier this winter. The Foxes, relegated from the Premier League last season after finishing in the bottom three alongside Ipswich Town and Southampton, are currently 16th in the Championship after 30 games.
They have also struggled recently, losing 2-0 at home to Charlton Athletic over the weekend and remaining winless in their last four league outings.
Adding Lascelles could provide stability at the back as Leicester City continue their search for a new manager following the departure of Marti Cifuentes.
The club’s next test comes with an away trip to Birmingham City this weekend, where they will hope to turn their form around.
