EXCLUSIVE: Lewis Gordon Set to Sign New Deal at Chesterfield

The Lower Tiers understands that Chesterfield are set to secure the long-term future of left-
back Lewis Gordon after exercising a one-year extension clause in his contract and offering
him a new, longer-term deal.

The 24-year-old impressed during his debut season at the SMH Group Stadium, making 38
appearances for the Spireites in the 2024/25 campaign. Gordon was a key figure in Paul
Cook’s side, helping them reach the League Two play-off semi-finals, where they went out to
the hands of Walsall.

Originally signed on a one-year deal last summer following his release from Bristol Rovers,
Chesterfield acted quickly to trigger a clause that extended his stay by an additional 12
months. However, recognising Gordon’s impact and potential, the club have now gone one
step further—offering him a fresh, extended contract aimed at tying him down for the long
term.

Gordon, a product of Watford’s youth academy, moved to Brentford in 2020 before joining
Bristol Rovers in 2022. While at Rovers, his steady development earned praise from then-
manager Joey Barton, who in 2023 noted:

“Lewis Gordon was excellent. He’s certainly come on from when we played Fleetwood at
home when he was bombarded… it was another fantastic, consistent performance from that
back four.”

Despite that progress, Gordon was surprisingly released in 2024, allowing Chesterfield to
swoop in and bring him to Derbyshire. Since then, he’s proven to be a reliable presence at
left-back—combining defensive composure with the ability to support attacks down the flank.
Club sources suggest that Gordon has settled well in Cook’s squad and is keen to remain
part of the project at the SMH Group Stadium. The offer of a new, longer-term contract
reflects Chesterfield’s intent to build stability and continuity ahead of another push for
promotion in 2025/26.

Final terms are still being worked through, but an agreement is believed to be close.
Gordon’s expected new deal would be a major boost to the Spireites’ summer planning,
ensuring they retain one of last season’s most dependable performers in a key area of the
pitch.

With his contract situation soon to be resolved, Gordon looks set to continue his upward
trajectory in Chesterfield colours—and play a leading role in the club’s ambitions going
forward.
