Lincoln City have today announced that Clive Nates will be relinquishing control of the club to Ron Fowler, subject to the EFL’s usual checks.
Nates, who has been the League One clubs owner for the past ten years is stepping aside but isn’t leaving as he will be Vice Chairman along with fellow Vice Chair Jay Wright.
Nates has been working alongside Wright, Director of Football Jez George and CEO Liam Scully in the day-to-day running of the club. It is not thought that George or Scully will be affected, however.
American businessman Ron Fowler, who is 81, was born in Minneapolis. Fowler is the Chairman and CEO of Liquid Investments and a former Chairman of the San Diego Padres Baseball Team.
Ron and his son Andrew Fowler joined the board at Lincoln City in April 2024 acquiring a 12.6% stake in the club.
Liquid Investments is a beverage company selling beer, energy drinks and other liquid beverages. It has been speculated that the company makes in excess of $300 million a year.
Of course, this is excellent news for the Imps, and the League One club will be eternally grateful to outgoing Chair Clive Nates, the South African Everton fan.
Michael Skubala’s side were already riding a wave as it is. It’s not that long ago that the club were sat in the Conference, and they now sit in 2nd place in League One.
Skubala’s side have 14 wins to their name this season, helping them to accumulate 48 points so far, just four points behind leaders Cardiff City.
The Imps have beaten sides such as Cardiff City and Luton Town this campaign and look strong going into the second half of the season.
The change of ownership is expected to be ratified within the next two weeks, but it is not expected there will be any hiccups. Welcome Ron, the Chair Seat is yours!
