Luton Town could look towards options in the January transfer window as the side look to make their chances of promotion higher.

The first half of the season hasn’t gone nearly as well as all Luton Town fans were hoping.
Sitting in eighth place in League One after 22 games, three points outside of the play offs, things aren’t going as expected for Jack Wilshere’s squad.
However, following an impressive 4-0 win over Wycombe Wanderers on boxing day, Wilshere’s team may look to build on this victory going into the January transfer window.
The 33-year-old hasn’t had the opportunity to make his own signings yet at Luton, with him only joining the club in October, following previous manager Matt Bloomfield’s sacking.
This arguably means that WIlshere will likely look to mould his squad to his liking in January, as Luton look to push for a promotion back to the Championship at the first time of asking.
With Luton CEO Gary Sweet stating that the objective for this transfer window is about improving promotion chances this season, this piece outlines potential signings Luton should make this January to try and bolster the squad for promotion.
Season Statistics:
Luton Town’s strikers this season have had a terrible time at finding the back of the net, and with Ali Al Hamadi getting injured while on international break with Iran and Elijah Adebayo still being ruled out long term.
As well as this, Nahki Wells and Jerry Yates are currently underperforming.
Therefore, Town arguably should be looking to sign a striker in January.
It is fair to say that Macaulay Langstaff hasn’t met expectations at Millwall following his move from Notts County in 2024.
However, with January looming, it is the perfect time for Langstaff to make a move away from The Den.
The 28-year-old impressed in his spells in the lower leagues in England, scoring 28 goals in League Two for Notts County in the 2023/24 season, and he could find his feet again in a Luton shirt in League One.
Langstaff possesses various qualities that can be said to be what Luton boss Jack Wilshere would look for in a striker, with his pace and finishing quality (especially from inside the six-yard box) being very useful assets that Luton need this January.
Season Statistics:
Whilst the permanent signing of Gideon Kodua wouldn’t change the immediate quality of Luton’s squad this January, it would be a fantastic statement of intent from the club to tie up his services permanently.
The 21-year-old winger has been in fine form recently for the Hatters, scoring four goals in his last five league games, including a boxing day brace versus his former club, Wycombe.
Meanwhile, with the young winger having an option to buy included in the loan deal from West Ham United, it would be a smart piece of business to trigger this option in January, rather than next summer where there will undoubtedly be more interest in him if he continues his fine form.
His double against Wycombe takes him to six league goals for Luton this season, topping the clubs scoring charts ahead of fan favourite Jordan Clark and therefore a permanent signing of Kodua would be great news for Luton fans this January, provided it comes with extra additions to the squad.
Season Statistics:
Finley Munroe has been having a stellar campaign on loan at Swindon Town and, arguably, he is the perfect addition if Luton are targeting a left sided wing-back due to his versatility, and his attacking threat, whilst also being capable defensively too.
In recent games, Luton’s left sided full-back has been more attacking than his counterpart on the right hand side, often inverting whilst attacking in order to switch to a back three in possession.
This is something that Munroe can excel in based on his attacking numbers this season.
The 20-year-old has created 36 chances in his 21 appearances for Swindon, as well as recording two goals and five assists.
Therefore, Aston Villa could look to move up him the EFL creating the possibility of a switch to Kenilworth Road.
Season Statistics:
Aaron Morley is a name that Luton fans will be familiar with if they kept up to date with transfer rumours throughout the summer, with the 25-year-old being rumoured with the Hatters on more than one occasion, however a move never materialised.
With January approaching, rumours about Morley making the move to Luton have ramped up again.
Unfortunately for Luton, it looks like there will be lots of interest in Morley this January, as it looks like Luton will rival Wycombe for Morley.
Furthermore, according to Bucks Free Press, the asking price for the midfielder would be £500,000, a number that Luton have smashed many times in the past few years, with the asking price likely to not be an issue.
The midfielder has struggled for playing time this season for Bolton, only starting seven league games, and therefore a move away in January is likely.
However, Bolton boss Steven Schumacher recently commented on these rumours, stating that he doesn’t want Morley to go anywhere.
If he was to sign for Luton, the midfielder could bring good midfield depth to Luton’s team, with his creativity a key part of this (having impressed us in Bolton’s visit to Luton).
However, since this date, he hasn’t featured again in the league for Bolton, potentially signifying that a move is set to come to fruition in January.
Season Statistics:
A left footed central defender is arguably the most needed addition for Luton Town this January, with Kal Naismith the only recognised senior option in the first team.
Naismith’s form has been lackluster at best to start the season, and with the Luton captain undergoing a spell on the sidelines, a loan deal for Jose Cordoba could be a smart option to explore in January.
The defender has been short of playing time at Norwich this season, only starting six league matches, therefore a loan may be in order for the Panama international defender as he looks for playing time before next year’s World Cup.
Meanwhile, Cordoba will be someone that Hatters boss Jack Wilshere will be familiar with, as they have crossed paths at Norwich City last season.
During this spell, Cordoba made appearances from the bench in both of Wilshere’s matches as interim boss.
Therefore, Wilshere may use these contacts at Norwich to his benefit as Luton manager, as Cordoba would be filling a huge hole in Luton’s side, making it a beneficial deal for both Luton and Cordoba himself.
What other players do Luton fans think should join the Town in January, and do you believe any of these players are realistic options to make a move to Kenilworth Road in the upcoming transfer window?
