Luton’s Zimbabwean Star Set To Join Sheffield Wednesday

Luton’s Zimbabwean star is set to leave the Hatters on Deadline Day.

Luton Town

Sheffield Wednesday are closing in on a deal to sign Marvelous Nakamba from Luton Town, according to Pete O’Rourke.

This deal has been rumoured for large periods of the window, and now it looks like the deal is done.

Wednesday’s reported interest in Nakamba broke last Thursday, and it was said that he was looking to terminate his contract with Luton in order to join the Owls.

The deal was halted by Wednesday having a lack of squad spaces, however Bailey Cadamarteri leaving the club looks to have freed this space.

Nakamba will join Luton teammate Jerry Yates in moving to the Owls, with Yates making his debut for the side in Saturday’s loss to Wrexham.

Nakamba’s Time At Luton

This brings Nakamba’s three year tenure with Luton to an end, joining on loan in January 2023 where he aided the club to promotion before signing permanently.

During his permanent tenure at the club, things haven’t gone to plan for Nakamba, with injuries largely limiting his playing time.

He has made just 41 appearances since joining permanently In the Summer of 2023, now leaving for relegation threatened Wednesday.

Nakamba became something of a cult hero during his time at Luton, being a large reason why the Hatters were promoted to the Premier League in 2023.

Nakamba scored a penalty in the shootout against Coventry City at Wembley, this being the only time he hit the back of the net with the Hatters.

What this could mean for Luton’s side.

This deal could potentially be linked to Luton’s deal to sign Davy Van Den Berg on loan from FC Utrecht, with Nakamba’s departure leaving a space for a midfielder to come in to the Hatters side.

Luton have struggled to find a suitable midfielder to sign on deadline day, with deals for Leighton Clarkson and Barnsley captain Luca Connell both falling through due to differences in the clubs valuations.

However they seemingly have their man in Van Den Berg, leaving the door open for Nakamba to depart the club.
