Huddersfield Town Lead Battle For USA International

Huddersfield Town are leading the battle for a major player.

Huddersfield Town have emerged as the frontrunner to sign USA international and former Stoke City defender, Lynden Gooch.

The Terriers have begun life under new boss Lee Grant and have made some impressive signings so far.

Marcuss Harness turned down Championship offers to join the West Yorkshire team and Ryan Ledson made the step down a division joining from Preston North End.

The club remain interested in Stoke City’s Nathan Lowe, who blew up League Two for Walsall before being recalled in January, but it looks like they will confirm the signing of a former Potters player beforehand.

Gooch was released by Stoke in the summer and has attracted interest from numerous League One clubs and bottom end Championship sides.

The 29-year-old has spent the last two seasons with the Potters, making 53 appearances, scoring two goals.

He had moved to the bet365 Stadium from Sunderland, where he has helped the Black Cats out of League One via the playoffs in 2022. The left sided defender, capped four times by his country, will be hoping to recreate that feet with Huddersfield.

What Can Lynden Gooch Bring To Huddersfield?

Whilst the Terriers have been happy to flash the cash this window, a free agent signing like this could be gold dust.

Gooch brings a wealth of experience to this side, a promotion winner out of the division and over 150 EFL appearances, alongside 11 appearances in the Premier League.

It’s not just ten years of experience that the California-born defender has to offer. Gooch can play anywhere out wide, be that at full-back, or further up the pitch. He has also played centrally when part of a back three, just adding the roles the player can bring.

Huddersfield will be hoping they can turn their fortunes around after a poor first year back in League One.

So far the Terrier’s summer has been impressive but it’s signings like Gooch that could be key to keeping this team in the mix of promotion.
