What Does Lyndon Dykes Bring To Charlton Athletic?

Lyndon Dykes recently made the move from Birmingham City to Charlton Athletic, as he joined the Addicks on loan.

Charlton Athletic

On January 15, 2026, Lyndon Dykes made the switch from the Midlands of Birmingham City to Charlton Athletic for the remainder of the season, chasing a possible World Cup Spot with Scotland.

What are the Addicks really getting from this transfer to aid them this season?

The Scotsman Lyndon Dykes joins to hopefully add some much needed fire power to Charlton’s attack for this season along with a great deal of experience.

The 30-year-old leaves Birmingham City after a season and a half, achieving the League One title with the Blues.

So far this season, Lyndon has started only two games for the Blues, netting twice.

In total he has made twenty-one appearances in the league which means 19 are substitute appearances.

After hot starts for both teams, he leaves Birmingham in 14th and joins Charlton further back in 19 position, five points above the relegation zone?

How Have Charlton Athletic Been Performing?

Charlton’s main issue is goals. Only Blackburn (24), Portsmouth (21) and Sheffield Wednesday (18) have scored less than them this season.

Currently, their top scorer is midfielder Sonny Carey with five. Charlie Kelman is the highest scoring forward with four goals this term.

Dykes would bring that level of experience where the instincts step into play.

He may not be the quickest or strongest anymore, but he can use his years of knowledge in the game to execute a run that leads to a chance for the team.

His hold up play could also be invaluable to the team.

The target man could use that 6ft. 2” frame to keep the ball under wraps until support arrives, something Kelman cannot do and Leaburn is not experienced enough to do. Dykes is not a one trick pony either.

He has made it this far and possesses this experience by playing numerous times for Scotland at international tournaments.

He has also represented his nation forty-eight (48) times, scoring 10 goals.

Going up against some of the best and still performing is what Chartlon could use for the rest of the season.

Over his career to date, he has produced one hundred and fifty-eight(158) G/A in 392 club appearances.

What’s Wrong With Charlie Kelman?

We don’t know why Charlie Kelman has not performed to the level we know of him.

Last campaign in League One, the American striker notched 23 goals and 5 assists leading Leyton Orient to a playoff position.

Maybe it was just a blip. Previously before last season, he never achieved a double-digit goal haul in his professional career.

There are still twenty games left so he might relocate those shooting boots alongside Dykes and this partnership might be one that the streets will not forget.

That would be something Addick fans would love to see and a push for top half in their first season in the division would be brilliant for Nathan Jones’ team.

When Will Lyndon Dykes Be Available?

Charlton were recently dumped from the FA Cup by Premier League powerhouses Chelsea by 5-1. Pride is at stake to reclaim at their next fixture which would be on January 17 vs. Sheffield United.

There is a good chance Dykes will be available, but due to lack of game time, he may only be fit enough/sharp enough to make an impact from the bench.
