Middlesborough Move In On Dutch Winger

Middlesbrough are reportedly in talks with NEC Nijmegen winger, Sontje Hansen over a move to the Championship.

The 23-year-old netted six times alongside getting four assists in the Eredivisie last season. The young playmaker has been an important player for NEC over the last two campaigns and is gaining interest from all over Europe.

Why Would Sontje Hansen Be Good For Middlesborough?

New boss Rob Edwards is key to add front line options to his Middlesbrough team as he sets them up for a promotion push.

A lack of goals was a huge problem for the Riverside team last season, something that ultimately led to Michael Carrick being replaced by Edwards as the side missed out on the playoffs for a second consecutive year.

Hansen is a product of the famous Ajax youth system and starred for the teams second squad, Jong Ajax.

Unfortunately, the now 23-year-old wasn’t given the chance to really show his potential for the first team, appearing just twice for the Dutch giants.

Instead, Hansen had to go elsewhere for top division football but has impressed throughout his two years with NEC. At present the winger is under contract until 2027, meaning the Dutch side will no doubt hope to get a sizeable fee for the player.

At Middlesbrough, on-loan Liverpool attacker Ben Doak was seen as one of the high points last season.

The 19-year-old Scot made 10 goal contributions in his spell before injury cut his campaign short. It his hoped that Hansen can fill that role, or even improve on the form of Doak, especially with Hansen likely to only be available on a permanent basis.

Talks for the player are said to be in the early stages, yet it is believed that Edwards has made the player a key target as he looks to remould this Middlesbrough squad.
