MK Dons 25/26 End of Season Review and Awards

It has been a successful season for the Dons as they find themselves at the top of League Two with one game to go. It is now time to look back on the highlights and turning points of a memorable season, as well as MK Dons’ end of season awards.

Should the Dons win in their visit to Fleetwood Town, the will be crowned League Two champions.

Fantastic Form in the New Year

The Dons hosted Chesterfield Town on January 4th, a 2-2 draw that would begin a run of 14 league games without defeat for the home side.

This run meant the Dons picked up 34 points out of a possible 42 in these 14 games, form that propelled them into the automatic promotion places.

Two 5-1 routs against Shrewsbury and Gillingham demonstrated the Dons’ firepower going forward. MK Dons scored an impressive 31 goals across this 14 game streak.

Important games on this run included an away victory against playoff hopefuls Swindon Town as well as a 1-1 draw at high-flying Cambridge, courtesy of a 96th minute Aaron Collins penalty.

MK Dons End of Season Awards

After a standout season, Liam Kelly picked up two awards. He won Player of the Year and Player’s Player of the Year. Kelly is a consistently hard-working player, always first to press, frequently recovering the ball for the Dons.

His work rate combined with his determination makes him an invaluable asset to the Dons. Kelly receiving two awards comes as no surprise.

Callum Paterson was also the recipient of two awards, top scorer. and best newcomer. Paterson has scored 15 goals this season, the best campaign of his career.

The combination of his finishing and his high standards have made him lethal in front of goal this season.

Aaron Nemane won goal of the season for his solo strike against Swindon Town. The defender picked up the ball just past the halfway line, dribbling through a crowd of players before firing home from distance.

Jack Burke received the Young Player of the Year award. He made three appearances for the Dons this season, all in cup competitions.

The Season as a Whole

MK Dons fans will be very pleased with the season as a whole. Securing promotion back to League One after three years away has certainly improved the mood amongst supporters.

With a multifaceted and extremely talented squad, Dons fans will already be thinking about what they can achieve next season.

Should MK Dons win the league at Fleetwood, it would be the finishing touch to a memorable season.
