Former EFL Club To Enter Administration

Morecambe confirmed on Tuesday evening that they would be entering adminstration. This could come as early as Wednesday morning.

This follows months of uncertainty at the club around the future.

Morecambe Enter Administration

In a statement by the Shrimps on Tuesday evening, the board of directors stated:

“The Board of Directors have, this evening, informed Jason that administrators will be called, at the earliest opportunity, tomorrow morning.”

The Board also stated:

“Following further discussions with Jason Whittingham this afternoon and evening, it is apparent to the Board of Directors that he is, for some reason, stalling for time and attempting to drag out what is a truly horrible situation and decision for as long as possible.

We must emphasise that this is without providing the Board with any substantive or convincing reasons for us to responsibly delay triggering the administration process.”

Morecambe’s EFL Record:

Before last season’s relegation to the National League, Morecambe had enjoyed a 18 year stay in the Football League.

This included a promotion from EFL League Two in the 2020-21 season. Subsequent, the Shrimps also enjoyed a two year spell in EFL League One during the 2021-22 and 2022-23.

However, the 2022-23 season arguably was the start of regression within the club. This is because the club were relegated in 22nd place to EFL League Two.

What followed was a 15th place in EFL League Two during the 2023-24 season before a 24th place finish and subsequent relegation last season.

Now, the Shrimps will have to reset, get themselves out of administration and rebuild to even have a chance of gaining promotion to the EFL again.

What Do You Think?

With Morecambe’s future uncertain, can the National League side survive? Or, is there a situation where the worst possible results could occur? Let me know in the comments.
