Bolton Wanderers have taken Swansea City goalkeeper, Nathan Broome on trial as they look to add depth to their shot-stopping department.
Steven Schumacher promised big changes after the Trotters missed out on the playoffs last season and has so far lived up to his promise, initiating an overhaul of the squad.
Every out-of-contract player was released in the summer, including keeper Nathan Baxter. After signing Teddy Sharman-Lowe on loan from Chelsea, Wanderers then let Luke Southwood join Bristol Rovers last week.
The moves leave the club with just two senior keepers, Sharman-Lowe and academy graduate, Luke Hutchinson.
Schumacher has stated he wants to bring in two keepers to challenge Sharman-Lowe, who looks set to be the sides number one going into the campaign.
The profile of player the Whites boss is after is a young keeper, who can learn and maybe surprise some and a keeper with experience to add balance to the squad and that specific department.
Prior to the squad flying out to Marbella for a week of pre-season testing, the club took a look at former Salford City and Wigan Athletic stopper, Jamie Jones.
Whilst Schumacher confirmed they would take another look at the 36-year-old, it was 23-year-old Broome who was on the plane to Spain.
Who is Nathan Broome?
Broome has bounced around in the youth system over the last seven years. Beginning at Manchester City before moving onto Stoke City, then onto Wimbledon.
In a very short time at the Dons, Broome impressed in his first taste of senior football, leading to a move to Swansea City, where he remains contracted today.
Broome spent the second half of 2024-25 on loan at Port Vale but only made one appearance. It is reported that he would be available on loan, or for a small fee.
The shot stopper has had this week to impress Schumacher and played the second half of the sides 2-0 win over Orlando Pirates today.
