The Lower Tiers understands that struggling League Two outfit, Newport County have made an offer to take Cardiff City’s Tanatswa Nyakuhwa on loan until the end of the season.
The Exiles have made an offer to take the 20-year-old on loan as they look to arrest a worrying run of form. Sitting second bottom of League Two, Newport are actively targeting attacking reinforcements and view Nyakuhwa as a player capable of injecting quality, energy and creativity into their survival push during the second half of the season.
Nyakuhwa has been a long-term target for other clubs, most notably Kilmarnock, who remain keen after failing to land the Cardiff academy graduate in the summer. That move was blocked after Cardiff rejected four separate loan proposals before the September 1 deadline — a list that included Kilmarnock, Anderlecht and two unnamed EFL sides — highlighting how highly the winger was rated at the club.
Cardiff’s stance at the time was shaped by Nyakuhwa’s rapid progress and a series of eye-catching performances, including a commanding display in the 3-0 win over Cheltenham Town. Despite being an attacking player by trade, he impressed operating in a central midfield role, completing the full match and demonstrating composure in possession, tactical intelligence and a strong work ethic that caught the attention of coaching staff.
Since then, Nyakuhwa has continued to edge closer to regular senior involvement and is now competing for a regular spot in the first team. Chris Willock has been vocal in his praise, tipping the youngster to go on and enjoy a “wonderful career” and highlighting his flair and ability to excite supporters.
With Cardiff now more receptive to a temporary move, Newport’s interest adds a new dimension to Nyakuhwa’s January prospects. Whether he joins a relegation battle in League Two, seeks a higher-level challenge elsewhere, or remains to fight for his place in Cardiff colours is shaping up to be a closely watched decision.
