Newport County have signed USL Championship forward Lewis Jamieson. The striker signed for Sacramento Republic from St Mirren in January 2025, netting 3 in 25 for Sacramento. He now makes the switch to English football for the first time in his young career. The Gwent side announced on X:

Jamieson’s Career

Jamieson began his career at St Mirren’s academy and made 17 senior appearances, scoring once for the club. St Mirren used loans heavily to develop him, and Jamieson responded with strong numbers at several clubs.

His first breakout came at Clyde, where he scored 4 goals in 12 games during his 2021 loan spell, then returned in 2022 to score 5 in 13. He also spent time at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Airdrieonians, and Raith Rovers, with Airdrie being his most prolific spell, producing 8 goals in 18 matches in the 2022–23 season.

In 2025 he made a move to the United States, joining Sacramento Republic, where he scored 3 goals in 19 league games in the USL Championship. His performances earned him a place in the EFL, signing for Newport County in January 2026 on a contract through 2027

Impact For Newport

Lewis Jamieson could give Newport a sharper edge in the final third because his underlying numbers show a forward who becomes significantly more dangerous when he plays regular minutes.

Across his senior career he averages roughly 0.24 goal contributions per 90, but that rises to above 0.35 in his most stable spells, and at Airdrieonians he hit 0.44 goals per 90, which is the kind of streak Newport have struggled to find. His work rate is another measurable asset, with pressure numbers typically in the mid‑teens per 90 and around four to five touches in the box each match, suggesting he consistently gets into scoring positions even when he is not finishing chances.

That blend of movement, pressing, and box activity gives Newport a forward who can stretch defences, create space for others, and chip in with goals during key periods of the season.
