Norwich City manager Philippe Clement faces a critical period in the January transfer window as the Canaries look to strengthen their squad for the Championship run-in.
Josh Sargent appears set to leave Carrow Road, leaving Norwich increasingly reliant on Jovon Makama, who has been the standout performer up front in recent weeks.
Makama has been in inspired form, scoring four goals in his last four games, including a hat-trick in the 5‑1 FA Cup victory over Walsall.
Despite his impressive displays, the 19-year-old is still adjusting to Championship football, having previously played for League One side Lincoln City, meaning Clement needs additional depth in attack to maintain momentum and continue moving clear of the relegation zone.
Norwich have also seen positive returns from January recruit Ali Ahmed, who joined from the Vancouver Whitecaps and has already contributed four goal involvements in his first three appearances.
Together with Makama, Ahmed provides a promising attacking combination, but Clement will be keen to add a more experienced forward to share the goal-scoring responsibility, particularly with Sargent likely departing.
One forward on Norwich’s radar is Bodo/Glimt striker Kasper Høgh, who has been in sensational form this season.
The 25-year-old Danish international has scored 21 goals across the UEFA Champions League, Norwegian league, and cup competitions, including a remarkable brace against Manchester City last week.
Høgh’s performances have put him on the radars of several clubs, with Norwich keen to secure him as a proven goal-scorer to bolster their Championship bid.
Norwich, however, may face a late setback, with Celtic reportedly entering the race for Høgh, according to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke via X.
Celtic manager Martin O’Neill, who briefly managed Norwich in 1995, is targeting the striker for the Scottish Premiership title race.
Despite surprise leaders Hearts, Celtic remain strong contenders, and Høgh may be tempted by the chance to compete for silverware in Glasgow, complicating Norwich’s plans.
On the pitch, Norwich have been building momentum. The Canaries followed a 5‑0 demolition of West Brom with a 2‑1 victory over title challengers Coventry City, moving four points clear of the relegation zone.
They now head into Saturday’s clash with automatic promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough in confident mood.
However, Boro are in excellent form themselves, having won three consecutive games against West Brom, Stoke, and Preston North End, ensuring a competitive encounter.
While Norwich remain focused on maintaining their Championship resurgence, developments in the transfer market could shape their second half of the season.
If Kasper Høgh joins Celtic instead of Carrow Road, Clement may have to rely heavily on Makama and Ahmed, leaving the Canaries potentially short-handed in attack.
Securing a proven forward would not only strengthen their squad but provide the firepower needed to climb the table and ease the pressure of the relegation battle.
