Salford City look set to sign former Crewe Alexandra defender Ollie Turton on a free transfer following his release from League One side Huddersfield Town, according to Alan Nixon on his Patreon account.
It is likely that the defender could sign for the Ammies as soon as this evening.
Turton made over 180 appearances when he was with the Railwaymen between 2010 and 2017, the right back managed four goals and eight assists in that time.
The 32 year old would then reject a new deal with the Alex in favour of a move to Blackpool, where he would go on to make over 150 appearances for the Tangerines, with a further 9 goal contributions in his time in Lancashire.
Following a four year stay at Bloomfield Road, Turton would make the move across the Pennines to join Huddersfield Town. He made almost 100 appearances for the Terriers, before being released at the end of last season.
What Would Ollie Turton Bring To Salford City?
During his illustrious career, Turton has made a total of 454 appearances, showing just how much his experience could help as Salford City look to escape League Two.
Despite being a right back by trade, Turton can play as a utility, having played wing back and central defender amongst other positions across his career making him versatile.
This versatility would be especially useful in the fourth tier due to the number of injuries that can be picked at that level.
During the 2024-25 season, using Turton’s transfermarkt statistics, we can see that the 32-year-old made 28 appearances in the third tier for Huddersfield Town showing that even at a lter stage of his career, he is abkle to consistently play for a side.
Is He A Good Signing?
Overall, we can that signing Oliie Turton would offer the Ammies a versatile and experienced option for their squad.
However, Haji Mnoga made over 40 appearances last season for City. Therefore, Turton would be in direct competition with Mnoga for the starting right-wing-back position. Even if Mnoga is preferred in this role, someone of Turton’s experience could be a key figure in Salford’s dressing room.
