Ones To Watch: Huddersfield Town vs Rotherham United

Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United meet in a Yorkshire derby at the Accu stadium this Saturday. Both teams are on poor runs of form, with one win in five games.

Three points would be massive for either side, as Huddersfield look to win a play off place whilst Rotherham fight for survival.

Here are five players who could be ones to watch throughout the fixture.

Marcus McGuane (Huddersfield Town)

A massive boost for Huddersfield is that key player Marcus McGuane is back in contention for the squad on Saturday.

McGuane suffered an injury in the 1-0 loss to Stevenage on the 14th of February.

This injury which has kept him out for the past 3 games, has subsequently proved a huge loss for Huddersfield.

He is a player who can handle the ball extremely well under pressure. Furthermore, McGuane has a pass success rate of 89.3%, which highlights his exceptional ball-playing ability.

Having transferred to Huddersfield from Bristol City in the summer, McGuane worked previously in Liam Manning’s Bristol City squad, who reached the championship play offs in 24/25.

Injuries kept McGuane out of the squad for almost all of Lee Grant’s time at Huddersfield. The quality that was missed has excelled since Manning’s arrival.

Ryan Hardie (Huddersfield Town)

One of Huddersfields January signings, Hardie is a player who offers significant attacking threat. Hardie registered 10 goals and 3 assists in the championship for Plymouth Argyle in the 24/25 season.

The striker has one goal to his name in a Huddersfield shirt, scoring the winner during a 2-1 win over Barnsley.

Hardie offers constant threat in the forward positions, especially in his finishing ability, which he proved at Plymouth.

Part of the Argyle centurion squad in 22/23, Hardie scored 13 goals for the Pilgrims, proving his league one pedigree.

Radinio Balker (Huddersfield Town)

Balker signed for Huddersfield in January 2024 whilst the club were still in the Championship. Due to Huddersfield’s squad rebuild in summer 2025, Balkers place in the team was subsequently under threat.

However, Radinio has stamped a place in the Huddersfield 11, regardless of the new summer incomings.

The Surinamese centre back holds impressive pace and dribbling ability, consequently being described as a “Rolls-Royce” among the Terriers’ faithful.

Balker has been a reliable option in the terriers backline this season regardless of his poor injury record, playing 90 minutes for 13 games in a row.

Ted Cann (Rotherham United)

Cann joined the millers from Forest Green Rovers on a free transfer in the summer of 2025.

He has only recently broken into the team, making his debut in the 1-0 loss to Bradford City.

Replacing Cameron Dawson in between the sticks, Cann has two clean sheets and made ten saves in three games.

A stellar performance in Rotherham’s 1-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle consequently earned him a place in the League One Team of the Week.

Cann’s recent performances will cause a doubt in Huddersfield’s goal scoring, furthermore making him one to watch this Saturday.

Sam Nombe (Rotherham United)

Rotherham Uniteds top scorer this season, Nombe will be looking to add to his tally following his goal in the reverse fixture.

Injury has hindered Nombes progress in equalling his goal tally in 24/25 which stood at 15.

Sam Nombe is a key player for Rotherham because of the constant goalscoring threat he carries, having 2.75 shots per 90 and 0.47 goals per 90.

Nombe will cause a threat to the Huddersfield backline, who will look to contain him after already conceding to him this season.
