Opinion: Is Reeco Hackett Lincoln City’s Cheat Code?

Reeco Hackett has been in sensational form, along with his teammates as Michael Skubala’s side look to escape League One.

Lincoln City have been utterly sensational to watch this season with the Imps sitting in second place in League One despite having one of the smallest budgets.

Michael Skubala’s side have been almost unstoppable, losing just five times this season, the same amount of defeats as leaders Cardiff City, whom they are just two points behind.

Their latest defeat came all the way back in November when Wycombe Wanderers won it at the death, 3-2, with one of the final kicks of the game.

In an unprecedented season, Lincoln City have won 18 games, and Saturday’s home game against Bolton Wanderers is massive for the club.

The Trotters are just six points behind the Imps but a win would really have fans dreaming about the second tier.

Lincoln City

Less than 10 years ago, The Imps were in non-league, now they have a real chance of promotion to the Championship.

Skubala’s side have had several pinch me moments in that time, including the FA Cup runs where they beat teams such as Burnley, Ipswich Town, Brighton and faced Arsenal, who would eventually knock them out in the quarter finals.

The EFL Trophy win against Shrewsbury Town was also a highlight, a day for fans to come from near and far and dawn on Wembley Stadium to watch a 1-0 win.

Then there is the league’s they’ve climbed, Danny and Nicky Cowley arrived from Braintree Town and a lot of the success mentioned above is down to the former PE Teachers.

They managed back to back promotion from the National League to League One. They would then leave for Huddersfield Town and Portsmouth, before now ending up full circle, back in Essex with Colchester United.

Reeco Hackett

One of the shining lights in Lincolnshire at the moment is the form of Reeco Hackett, he’s hit form at just the right time. The St Lucian has hit nine goals this season and also has four assists.

The 28-year-old winger hasn’t just been in form this campaign though. Since his move from fellow League One club Portsmouth, he has hit 11 goals and eight assists in the two seasons prior to this.

Hackett wasn’t always appreciated on the South Coast, despite playing over 70 times for Pompey, he got 10 goals and four assists. Showing just how well he has settled in Lincolnshire.

The Rest Are No Slouches Either

Whilst Reeco is in form at the moment, the rest of the team are also contributing, former Derby County man James Collins hitting four goals before his season ended with an unfortunate knee injury.

Despite this, the Imps have tied Collins down, showing just how much of a community the club is and that nobody will be left behind.

Another former Ram (I’ll stop in a minute haha) is Freddie Draper, with the 21-year-old picking up where Collins left, helping himself to eight goals and three assists.

Irish midfielder Jack Moylan has also been in great form, contributing another six for the club, along with a trio of assists.

Several other players are on four goals as well, showing that Lincoln City are anything but a one man team.

That being said, all teams would love a Reeco Hackett.
