Our League Two Team and Manager of the Season

There are 746 players that have been eligible to play in League Two during the course of the 2024/25 season, but it is the small majority of these that have been consistently unique and outstanding throughout the course of the season. We could have picked any of the 746 players to make this team of the season, but it is these 11 that we found have excelled and stood out from the rest.

We will also reveal our Lower Tiers manager of the season – a manager with fight, courage, and determination as he has guided his team to success this campaign.

Join us as we go through both the team and manager of the season.

The League Two Team of The Season

Overall, this has contributed to Walsall’s great start of the season with them being top of the league for a significant amount of time leading to Taylor Allen’s participation in the Lower Tiers League Two Team of the season.

Matty Platt – Notts County –

Our fourth player who has earned their place in the team of the season and the spine of Notts County’s defence is former Bradford man Matty Platt who has helped Notts County to pick up 16 clean sheets – the 3rd most in the division. Winning 67.5% of his 410 duels and winning 62% of tackles of 65 tackles shows how the 27 year old has played a vital role in keeping clean sheets helping the Magpies earn crucial points leading to Notts County having a chance at promotion to League One.

Finally, Platt’s 267 clearances that he has conducted so far this campaign have helped to provide the rest of Notts County’s defence with comfort. Overall, with Platt’s solid defending qualities he has earned himself a central defender spot in the Team of the Season.

Jake Reeves – Wimbledon –

Our second and final Wimbledon addition in this team arrives in the form of Jake Reeves who has functioned as the key central figure in the Dons midfield. Scoring 2 goals whilst assisting 4, Reeves’ attacking threat is clear.

However, it is his crucial defensive actions that have helped to earn his place in this team with the 31 year old making 21 interceptions whilst also winning 66.7% of his tackles in the 2331 minutes the former Stevenage man has placed in this season. As we can see, both Reeves’ attacking contributions and his defensive contributions have helped to benefit the Wimbledon side and put them in the promotion mix.

Richie Smallwood – Bradford City –

We then arrive at the Bradford City captain – Richie Smallwood – who has played every minute of the season he has been eligible to play for so far this season. Creating 48 chances, scoring 2 and assisting 3, the 34 year old’s ability to create and execute attacking opportunities is clear whilst his ability to act defensively winning 77 tackles with a 57.7% success rate in aerial duels as a 5ft 11 midfielder have helped the Bantams to be so solid defensively having only conceded 39 goals in the season.

However, the former Hull man’s ability to offer effective ability in an attacking and defensive ability have been the main contributor in earning him a place in the team of the season.

Ryan Croasdale – Port Vale –

The third midfielder and left midfielder in this team – Ryan Croasdale who has won 55 tackles in the middle of the park which puts him in the 96th percentile helping to provide Vale’s defence with relief through Moore’s positioning of the 30 year old. This has led to an increased likelihood of Port Vale winning the league title with the Valiants currently placed top.

We can see this with the stat of 33 chances created which puts him in the 87th percentile. Now moving onto our attacking midfielder in the team and the attacking outlet for Doncaster – Luke Molyneux who is ranked as Doncaster’s top scorer and assister with 13 goals and 10 assists playing a significant role in Doncaster’s attack and earning his side crucial points.

Finally, Luke Molyneux has supported his other teammates in converting goal scoring opportunities by creating 86 chances which is in the top 2% of midfielders in the fourth tier. Overall, the fantastic attacking qualities that Luke Molyneux holds has earned the Winger a spot in the Lower Tiers Team of the Season.

Laurent Tolaj – Port Vale –

Off the back of a successful season with Aldershot Town in the 2023/24 season, it could have been seen to be unclear on how Laurent Tolaj would perform this season especially considering the jump in leagues. However, his performances this season which have seen the 23 year old pick up 13 goals and 8 assists have exceeded some expectations on how he would perform this season and have been a large contributor in his inclusion in this team.

However, Tolaj does not only offer an attacking threat but also a defensive portfolio with the Swiss attacker winning 144 duels, 15 tackles and blocking the ball on 26 occasions. This has helped to prevent goals whilst also keeping the Valiants high up the field instead of deep. All this has made Tolaj a worthy inclusion in our team of the season.

Michael Cheek – Bromley –

Next, we are going to be writing about the penultimate player in the team of the season and the focal point of Bromley’s attack – Michael Cheek who is ranked 1st in the top scorer charts amongst other strikers within League Two with 21 goals at this point in the season.

Overall, Cheek can be seen to be Bromley’s main goal threat.

However, his possession statistics are also impressive winning 306 aerial duels whilst also making 363 successful passes helping his side maintain possession. Overall, the physical presence of Micheal Cheek has earned the Target man a spot in the Lower Tiers Team of the season.

However, the former Viborg man’s playmaking ability has also helped to benefit County with 387 successfully passes and a 60% long ball accuracy helping to create 31 chances from Jatta so far this season. This, along with his attacking ability, make Jatta a clear and justified inclusion in this team.

The League Two Manager of the Season –

Andy Woodman – Bromley –

It is also difficult to choose a clear manager of the season with each offering their own individual qualities and abilities that help to benefit their sides. However, Andy Woodman’s ability to guide Bromley to an impressive first season in the EFL have earned him the title of the Lower Tiers League Two Manager of the Season.

From an impressive league double against AFC Wimbledon to holding the former league leaders Walsall on two occasions, Bromley have impressed under Woodman’s leadership and have exceeded the expectations of many across this season resulting in a very credible 14th place in the league table at the time of writing. These have helped to earn Woodman the position of manager of the season from our perspective.
