From K League 2 To The Championship: Oxford United Announce New Signing

Oxford United have had a sluggish start, but are looking up after an active January transfer window. But who’s their new man?

Oxford United

Oxford United have again, had a bumpy start to life in the EFL Championship, with the side sitting 23rd, on 24 points. The side had a rocky start last season, and are hoping to turn it around and survive again.

To manage this mammoth task, The Ox’s will need statement signings and good management, so where do they start?

Management Changes

Unfortunately, the club said good riddance to Gary Rowett who served the club from December 2024 to December 2025. Rowett managed just 366 days in charge, and managed to keep the side afloat.

The results however, did not stay afloat and He faced the chopping block. Hoping to change the tides, they then bought in Matt Bloomfield to take on the challenge of survival. The club have given him a budget, and he is using it wisely.

Oxford United’s Star Recruitment

So far in the January window, Oxford have made 3 brand new permanent signings. These include Myles Peart-Harris, Jamie McDonnell, and new star Jin Woo Jeon. Whilst seemingly smaller signings, these will help Oxford United in the race for survival. Giving the squad depth and options.

Oxford have also bought in multiple players on loan, such as Tottenham Hotspur striker Jamie Donley. A plan is seemingly coming together for Oxford.

Jin Woo Jeon: Who Is He?

Jeon is a 26 year old winger, and has come over from South Korean K-League winners, Jeonbuk Hyundai. Last season, the winger bagged 20 goals and 5 assists. This aided the South Korean side to a League and Cup double.

The South Korean winger, is a pacey addition to the side, and will easily help provide goals and quality. Jin-Woo Jeon offers Oxford United pace, directness, and energy in wide areas.

He is comfortable taking defenders on, he can stretch the pitch and create space in the final third.

This is particularly against compact defenses. With his experience in the K League 2 points to a player accustomed to high-tempo, transitional football.

These qualities should suit the demands of The Championship. Just as importantly, his off-the-ball work rate and pressing intensity align with Oxford’s emphasis on structure and aggression.

This ability is alternatively giving them another dynamic option across the front line.
