Derby Launch Bid For Target Amid Ipswich Town Interest

Derby County have lodged a bid for Charlotte FC striker Patrick Agyemang reported to be in the region of £5 million, as The Rams push to beat Ipswich Town for the American’s signature, according to Football League World.

The 24-year-old attacker is having a wonderful campaign with Charlotte FC so far, netting 8 goals and also providing 2 assists in 18 appearances so far this season. Agyemang has also proven his worth on an international scale, scoring five times in just nine games for the US National Team.

Derby Show Their Stance With Bid For Agyemang

The Rams are looking to back their boss John Eustace this transfer window, and that seems to have been proven with Derby pushing to complete the statement signing of Agyemang.

Reports from Football League World and other journalists including Fabrizio Romano seem to have Derby in the driving seat for the US Striker’s signature this summer, but it is believed that fellow Championship rivals Ipswich Town are working on a deal, which could make things more difficult for Derby.

However, despite the Tractor Boys being a more fruitful opportunity, The Rams’ surprise bid shows a clear state of intent in this race.

The American Attacker is enjoying a strong run of form which has been showed through his 18-goal record with Charlotte in 54 appearances. Agyemang could be a shrewd signing if John Eustace’s side could pull it off, but as with any transfer, there could be some risk involved.

Why Bidding For Patrick Agyemang May Be A Risk

The £5 million fee for the US National could be more than some clubs in the Championship will end up spending on a large portion of their transfer business, which is why Eustace and the Derby Board have to be 100% sure that Ageymang is the perfect fit for The Rams and their vision over the next few years as they look to build on a positive first season back in the Championship.

After the acquisition of Carlton Morris, it would make the signing of Agyemang seem very expensive for an attacker who may not be getting regular minutes within the first team. However, with the skills that the US attacker brings, it does seem like a no-brainer for Derby.

What do you think, though? Is Pride Park the right move, and should Ipswich show more interest? Let us know in the comments below.
