Peterborough United Chase Non-League Forward

Peterborough United are once again digging into the non-league market as they are reportedly in advance talks for Braintree Town forward, Kyrell Lisbie.

Lisbie, the son of former Charlton Athletic forward Kevin Lisbie has been making an impression at Braintree, so much so that EFL clubs have been watching the player throughout the campaign.

The now 21-year-old began his playing career within Watford’s youth ranks before leaving the club in 2022. From there the player joined Welling United but with playing opportunities limited he made the decision to drop down a level, joining Cray Valley Paper Mills.

The spell was short lived, with Lisbie being clearly too good for the level. A step up was granted within a season, as Braintree took a chance on the young winger.

In 48 appearances for the team this season, Lisbie has netted 15 goals, 11 of which came in the National League as his contributions helped keep the club in the division at the first time of asking.

Peterborough have grown a reputation for delving into non-league, finding talented youngsters and nurturing them into impressive EFL players.

This move not only matches the club’s ethos but coincides with Kwame Poku’s likely departure to Birmingham City.

Winger Poku has gone from strength to strength since joining from Colchester United in 2021. After a quiet first campaign, the now 23-year-old has come to life, netting 12 goals in each of his last two season and contributing 10 assists this campaign as he club became the first to team to win back-to-back EFL Trophies.

For Poku a step up was only a matter of time and it would appear that Birmingham City will be his destination following on from their record 111 points, League One Title winning season.

21-year-old Lisbie is a very clear talent and there is no better place to nurture that talent than at Peterborough, who seem to have written the book on turning non-league gold into EFL staples.
