The League One relegation picture is very unpredictable right now.
Port Vale and Plymouth Argyle occupy the bottom two places in the division and are really struggling.
Meanwhile, Peterborough United and Blackpool have vastly improved under new managers.
The Vale and Argyle met at the weekend, with the Pilgrims emerging 1-0 winners.
This has put huge pressure on Darren Moore with Port Vale now sat at the foot of the table.
Does Darren Moore Deserve More Time?
Moore really divides the Valiants fanbase. Some think it’s time for a change, whilst others don’t think he is totally to blame.
The Vale’s start to the season wasn’t particularly strong. They didn’t win a league game until the 13th of September, but they did look better than the results suggested.
Following their first win, Vale won their next two and went unbeaten in the next four.
However, in their five league matches since then, they have only taken one point.
A Lack Of Goals For Port Vale
Losing to Stockport County and Bolton Wanderers can be justified.
But losing at home to the only team in the league who are worse than you without scoring cannot.
Scoring goals has been a huge problem for Moore’s side so far this season.
They are the lowest scorers in the league, only finding the back of the net eleven times, which is eight less than Plymouth and with Argyle playing a game less.
Furthermore, Vale have only scored one goal in their last seven league games and none in the last five.
Meanwhile, Darren Moore’s side have the joint worst goal difference in the division, but not because of a poor defence. In fact, they have the best defensive record of the current bottom four.
The Vale’s Upcoming Fixtures
Looking at their next few games, it’s difficult to see where Port Vale’s next points will come from. This weekend they travel to fourth place Lincoln City.
Followed by games against third placed Bradford City and seventh placed Luton Town.
Peterborough at home is a decent chance to pick up some vital points but will Darren Moore even be in charge by then?
Only time will tell.
