Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Carl Rushworth is close to joining Championship side Coventry City on loan, according to journalist Alex Crook on his X account.
The Sky Blues had a £5.5m initial bid rejected earlier in the transfer window as the Premiership side look to keep hold of one of their prized assets. They are willing to let him leave on loan now though.
The 24 year old spent last season on loan at Hull City but played just three times as he struggled for game time. Ivor Pandur was the main man between the sticks for the Tigers.
Rushworth showed his quality the previous season though as he played every game whilst on loan at Championship side Swansea City managing to play 48 times for the Swans.
The Halifax born stopper has also enjoyed loan spells at Lincoln City, Walsall and Worthing.
Coventry City’s Keeper Situation
Coventry have two keepers fighting it out at the moment in Ben Wilson and Brad Collins. Wilson had his injury issues and Collins played just 15 times last season for Frank Lampard’s side.
Following Oliver Dovin’s ACL injury that he suffered in April, he is expected to be out for much of the season, so it’s not a shock to see Rushworth linked with the Sky Blues.
The goalkeeper is expected to complete his medical today, with the deal expected to be announced within the next few hours.
Coventry managed to finish fifth in the league last season and will be hoping to go one better this season, as they look to emulate what Sunderland managed to do and reach the Premier League for the first time since the 2000/2001 season.
A main man with confidence and a safe pair of hands would go a long way to achieving this.
