QPR have had a fairly good start to the season and currently sit in 11th position, winning 11, drawing 6 and losing 10 this campaign.
QPR drew 0-0 with Stoke City in the Championship on Saturday and it has now emerged that Coventry City striker Justin Obikwu, who had been loaned out to League One club Lincoln City has been recalled by the Sky Blues from the Imps.
This is in anticipation of a move to the Hoops, according to Pete O’Rourke on his X account.
Obikwu is yet to make his debut for the Sky Blues, however, he spent 2023/24 and 2024/25 on loan with League Two side Grimsby Town.
Whilst with the Mariners he played 37 games scoring 10 goals and gaining an assist.
Obikwu was doing well for the Imps, playing 21 times for Michael Skubala’s side, finding the back of the net three times. He also got an assist.
Sporting director Jez George said:
“Coventry had indicated to us earlier in the window that they were happy for Justin to stay with us for the remainder of the season, but their circumstances have changed in the last 48 hours and we were informed of their desire to recall Justin on Thursday afternoon.”
“The January transfer window always throws curveballs and whilst this was completely unexpected, it is part of football. We are now working hard to identify all available and affordable options in the market that fit our game model to replace Justin, as well as the ongoing process of trying to strengthen the squad as Michael alluded to this week. As in August, it is important that we make the right decisions for the next four months and not just the next four games.”
Richard Kone and Rayan Kolli lead the line today for QPR, with Rumarn Burrell out injured.
With Paul Smyth and Alfie Lloyd out of favour, the Hoops could well be looking for another forward to support Kone and Kolli for the remainder of the season.
Could Justin Obikwu be the answer to their prayers?
