Rhian Brewster believes Derby County can take encouragement from their performance against Ipswich Town despite suffering a 2-1 defeat at Pride Park, with the forward stressing the determination and togetherness inside the dressing room as the Rams look to turn positive displays into points.

Determination And Resilience

Derby found themselves trailing at the interval after conceding from a set piece, a disappointing start that left Brewster frustrated given the importance the side places on defensive organisation.

However, the striker felt the team responded in the right way, showing resilience and discipline to remain competitive against a strong Ipswich side.

“Yes, I thought we dug deep today. We went into half-time a goal down. Obviously, it wasn’t how we wanted to start the game.”

“We take pride in set pieces, so it was disappointing to concede from that. I thought the boys stuck to the game plan well.”

“We dug deep and won the penalty to make it 1-1. Then I thought we were the better team. We had some chances, but maybe the final pass lacked a little bit today.”

“After they scored again, we were pushing for the goal to equalise, but we just came up a bit short.”

Second-Half Reaction

Brewster’s composed penalty early in the second half brought Derby level and injected belief into the home side, who enjoyed their most sustained period of pressure following the equaliser.

The Rams moved the ball with greater confidence, pressed higher up the pitch and began to create openings, forcing Ipswich to defend deeper as the game wore on.

Despite enjoying promising moments in the final third, Derby were unable to capitalise on their chances.

The final pass or decisive moment was often missing, allowing Ipswich to absorb the pressure before regaining the lead.

Even after falling behind for a second time, Derby continued to push in search of another equaliser, showing the fight and commitment demanded at Pride Park.

Putting Things Right At Home

While the defeat added to Derby’s frustrations in front of their own supporters this season, Brewster was clear that the responsibility for improving home results rests firmly with the players.

He emphasised the need to show character, passion and quality on a consistent basis.

“The results haven’t been there at home a lot this season. It’s for us as players to show character, show passion and show the quality that we can all bring, that we know we can bring.

We came up short today, but we’re just going to keep fighting for the badge and keep going.”

“We’ve got a week to prepare again for the next game against Swansea. We’ve got to put things right next week.”

With a full week on the training ground ahead, Derby now turn their attention to Swansea City, with Brewster and his teammates focused on ensuring positive performances are matched with points.

Despite the setback, Brewster’s message was one of resilience and belief, underlining a shared determination within the squad to respond and improve in the weeks ahead.
