Salford City have made an ambitious bid for Burton Albion defender Udoka Godwin-Malife, according to Pete O’Rourke.
Godwin-Malife is captain at the Brewers but this hasn’t stopped Salford from making a cheeky bid for the centre back.
The 25-year-old who went off injured in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Huddersfield Town, has played 63 times over two seasons for the Brewers, since joining from Swindon Town.
Whilst at Swindon, he played 43 games, scoring one goal and gaining three assists.
During that time, Godwin-Malife has scored twice and assisted a further four.
Before his Swindon spell, he had a long stint with Forest Green Rovers. He stayed with Rovers for five seasons, making well over 100 appearances for the club.
He contributed with two assists.
Gary Bowyer’s side sit just one point outside the relegation places in 19th position in League One. They will be desperate to keep hold of their captain!
Salford City, meanwhile, are flying in League Two, where they currently sit in fourth place, one of three teams on that amount of points including second placed Swindon Town.
The Ammies have scored 38 goals, but have conceded 33. This could be why they’re targeting a defender.
On Saturday, Salford gained a valuable 3-2 win over second placed Swindon Town.
Going forward they seem fine with the likes of Dan Udoh, Kelly N’Mai and Ryan Graydon contributing.
Defensively they don’t look as solid, Luke Garbutt, Ollie Turton and Brandon Cooper started at the back against Swindon.
As Salford aim to keep up their promotion push, it is inevitable that names will be linked with the high-flying League Two side as they look to finish the season strongly and look to keep their momentum going.
Do the Ammies need another defender? Or should Salford look somewhere else other than Godwin-Malife?
