It is no secret within the EFL that Bristol City’s Scott Twine can take a free kick. But his ability to find the back of the net from set-pieces begs a bigger question – Is he one of the best at them on the planet?
Twine came through the academy at Swindon Town, he did not really get a chance to make his mark on the first team for The Robins and found himself on loan at Chippenham Town in 2017, where he scored four goals in 10 appearances.
His career did not really take off until 2020, when he headed out on another loan spell – this time to fellow League Two side Newport County.
He netted seven goals for the Exiles, including some high-quality strikes – it was his ability from free kicks that led his parent club to recall him in January.
At the end of the 20/21 season, Twine was being linked with bigger and better things and in July 2021, then high end League One club MK Dons snapped him up as they looked to build a team that would challenge for promotion.
And the step up in division caused him no stress, 33 goal contributions in League One the season later just reiterated his ability as a creative outlet.
Again, his set-pieces were often at the beginning of EFL highlight shows on Saturday nights and really got the football world talking.
He netted six goals from free kicks and several of his contributions came from corners and free kicks finding unmarked teammates.
There is a cutting-edge precision to his set-pieces, and it is no wonder why he is becoming ever-important for high-flying Bristol City in the championship.

He has five goals and three assists for the Robins as they chase a place in the Championship play-offs, three of those goals coming from outside the box with an xG of 0.06,0.07 and 0.02.
There’s certainly few who can match those figures on the planet, let alone the second division of English Football, is he one of the most dangerous set-piece takers in the world?
