Sheffield United Close In On Championship Winger Signing

Sheffield United are closing in on signing Ipswich Town winger Chieo Ogbene on loan, with permission granted for Ogbene to leave the Republic of Ireland camp to undergo a medical at the Blades, according to Twtd and EADT, ahead of Leicester City and Wrexham, which Ogbene was linked to previously but decided to go to Bramall Lane

This deal was first reported yesterday by BBC Sheffield reporter Andy Giddings, who reported that Town and Sheffield United were discussing a loan spell for Chieo Ogbene after Saturday’s game v Derby County post-match, where manager Kieran McKenna said, “There’s a possibility, and it’s only a possibility, that Chieo might go on loan.”

Chieo made his return from a ruptured Achilles injury that happened last season v Brentford during pre-season, and made 2 starts ahead of schedule and one sub appearance, but the Blues have added to their wide right options since then, like Mcateer and Sindre Walle Egeli. Then it’s the right time for Ogbene to go and get regular minutes at Sheffield United.

While the Blades are at rock bottom of the championship, having lost all four of their matches so far, while also crashing out of the Carabao Cup, the manager is now under significant pressure.

Ogbenes Ineligibility For Sheffield United

Should Ogbenes move to Sheffield United, go threw then he won’t be eligible to play the next game against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Friday, 12th of September due to it being a loan spell

The Former Luton Town man, who has 20 caps for the Republic of  Ireland also set to join back up with the Republic of Ireland Squad for the first time in 2025 after the deal is completed for their World Cup qualifying matches against Hungary and Armenia
