Leicester City and Preston Chase Sheffield Wednesday Star

Championship Duo Chase Defender

Leicester City have joined Preston North End in the pursuit of Sheffield Wednesday player, Max Lowe.

Lowe is reported to be one of the players who has handed in their notice at the club and could become available in the coming days.

Wednesday is having another incredibly difficult summer, with players and staff going unpaid, alongside being given a three-window transfer embargo and an ongoing saga over the future of head coach Danny Rohl.

Whilst the Owls problems are existential, Leicester is not without its own problems, having waited to part ways with Ruud van Nistelrooy to avoid certain payments and a potential points deductions looming over past financial discrepancies.

What Does Lowe Have to Offer?

For the Foxes, Lowe presents a player with vast experience in the division, that could be available without the club having to open their chequebook.

28-year-old Lowe joined Wednesday from cross-city rivals Sheffield United in the summer and played 37 times for the club in 2024-25.

The versatile defender can play left-back or centrally, having played as part of back three and at wing-back over the last three seasons in South Yorkshire.

Not only does Lowe bring versatility at the back but he has also recorded two promotions to the Premier League in past years.

In 2021-22, the now 28-year-old played 21 times as Nottingham Forest returned to the topflight and then played 26 times for Paul Heckingbottom’s Sheffield United as that team as they were promoted as runners-up.

In any other circumstance a player like Lowe would not be available but as FIFA regulations state that any player not paid on the correct date for two consecutive months, can hand their 15-day notice in, which the player is believed to have done.

Preston, who were interested in Lowe upon his release from the red side of Sheffield, remain keen but look likely to have the Foxes to contend with in securing his signature.
