Southampton have been handed a deadline day boost, as the club are set to keep an important stalwart until the end of the season. Southampton defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis is set to stay put at the club, despite multiple bids from West Ham, reports the Athletic.
The Saints deemed the England international, who scored on his debut against the Republic of Ireland in 2024, as too important to leave the club mid-season.
The Saints knocked back multiple bids for Harwood-Bellis, who was naturally keen on the move to the Premier League, but acted professionally throughout the transfer window and stayed on top form for his club.
The Lower Tiers understands that Southampton’s stance on the transfer was strong, and that no bids worth under an initial £20m were to be accepted mid-season.
A huge boost for the Saints, who are seven points off of the Championship play-off spots, keeping one of their biggest defensive assets will be key in their short-term hopes.
Harwood-Bellis has started twenty-five of Southampton’s thirty Championship games so far this season, proving a big threat from set-piece situations, scoring four times.
With the short-lived Harwood-Bellis saga over for now, the Saints can focus on other outgoings.
With Adam Armstrong and Joe Aribo set to leave for new opportunities, and Cameron Archer’s move to Scottish club Rangers close to collapse, it’s been quite the clearout.
Coming in the other way, Canadian striker Cyle Larin is set to travel to Southampton to complete a medical, reports Pete O’Rourke.
This comes as Southampton’s immediate replacement to top scorer Adam Armstrong, who is off to Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The state of play at Southampton is interesting on deadline day, but Harwood-Bellis staying put is a huge boost for the club that sits 14th in the Championship.
