Stevenage have had a varied season and still have a chance of claiming a play-off spot in the closing stages of the campaign.

Stevenage currently sit just outside of the playoffs in EFL League One so far this campaign, with them positioned 7th on 48 points.
Now, with the remainder of the season inevitable, the Boro will be looking to climb up the table and potentially reach the playoffs within the remainder of the season.
Ahead of their next fixture against Wycombe Wanderers on the 21st of February, we sat down with Stevenage Luca to talk all things Boro in a Stevenage interview.
Before we start, we would like to thank Stevenage fan Luca for taking part in this Stevenage interview. His responses were informative and aim to give you an insight into Stevenage as a club currently.
Stevenage currently sit seventh in the league. How do you feel your team has performed so far this season?
“Fresh off of a potentially season-defining result on Saturday, a 1-0 home win against Huddersfield, I look back on the season so far in two halves.
“An immensely overachieving first ten games, where we picked up eight wins, and then a current record of four wins in twenty. It’s been a tough season filled with inconsistency, but performances that definitely show immense quality.”
Compared to your feelings before the season started, would you say your thoughts now are more positive or negative?
“Still positive, our squad depth is fantastic and many predict us to go down before the season, so in some respects we are still massively overachieving for the club of our size.”
Who would you say has been your best player so far this campaign?
“My Player of the Season has been Charlie Goode, who I would argue has been the most consistent and outstanding centre-back in the entire division this season. Comfortable on the ball and so aerially dominant, he has been a rock for us.”
Who has surprised you the most this season, and why?
“This season I have been surprised by the rise of Lewis Freestone.
“A player who struggled to consistently get starts in his first season with us in 2024/25, but someone who has developed into a fantastic all-round defender and higher League One quality asset to our eleven.
“He just simply always performs from left-back, always wins his battles and gives you everything.”
How do you feel your team has performed in cup competitions this season?
“A weak point from our end, the runs in cup competitions have been poor with first round exits in FA and EFL Cup, as well as a Last 16 exit in the Vertu, where we did actually win all group games.
“For me, a quite obvious statement of “focus on the league’”
Do you think your manager Alex Revell has done a good job this season, and why?
“His start to the season was immense, we had an identity, so many options and may systems could be deployed, it was all going so well.
“But as this run has happened, his managerial inexperience in League One has been tested, he’s shown poor decision making at times, and he’s struggles to rediscover his identity, so fans have been on his back quite rightly.
“But recent wins has turned the tide a lot, although future performances are needed.”
Have your owners supported your team enough this season?
“In the summer definitely, we had additions such as Jordan Houghton and Phoenix Patterson for sums of money we had never ever spent before on players we never would dream of getting before.
“January was focused on future talents, where lots of money was spent for those, but not on first team players we needed.
“However Matt Phillips has recently been brought in (assuming on big wages) showing some more backing in this window. In short, the most support from owners we’ve ever had.”
Which position has been the most beneficial to your side this season?
“Defensively we have been superb, bar recent weeks and away performances where we’ve conceded too many cheap goals. Our array of quality and depth is matched by few in the division.”
Which position do you feel has held your team back the most this campaign?
“Definitely going forward, Jamie Reid has still struggled this campaign due to our inability to bring in a physical number nine to pair him with, and this shows why we have extremely low XG and goals scored.
“Matt Phillips is a good option, but we need a long term solution sooner or later.”
What do you believe to be a realistic aspiration for your team in the closing stages of the season?
“In the closing stages of the season, unbelievably a play-off push is still achievable due to the sheer unpredictability of this league.
“We have the quality and depth to do it, we just need the wins, performances and our identity back. A top ten finish would be a real good campaign for me.”
