A sold out Lamex Stadium awaits as second place Stevenage host Seventh place Luton Town in League One hoping to go top of the table following Bradford City managing just a draw in their Thursday night game which ended 2-2. If Boro do slip-up and Luton manage to get the win, Lincoln City are waiting in the wings as League One slowly begins to take shape with this ‘surprise’ top 3.

Recent Form

The Boro come into the game in great form having won four of their last five games in all competitions including a 3-2 away win against Leyton Orient and currently sit second in the table suppressing expectations at the start of the season who many thoughts could go down.

Whilst the Hatters have been in mixed form with only one win from five in all competitions including a 2-2 draw last time out away from home against Blackpool where they recovered from 2-0 down.

Head-to-head

The two sides have not met since a EFL Cup first-round tie in 2021 where they played out a 2-2 tie which Stevenage won 3-0 on penalties.

This is the first time they have met in League One but did meet eight times between 2014 and 2018 with Stevenage winning four most notoriously a 2-1 win in August 2016 where Matt Godden scored an added time winner, Luton winning three, their most notable win being a 7-1 victory in October 2017 and two draws.

Alex Revell will be hoping he has his top scorer Jamie Reid back in contention this weekend after the Northern Ireland international missed out at Leyton Orient with a knock. In addition, Carl Piergianni and Dan Phillips are doubtful for Saturday afternoon’s game.

The Boro will still be without Tyreece Simpson, Jake Young and Louis Thompson due to long-term injuries.

For the home side Harvey White has been in great form with two goals and three assists and will be very dangerous from a set-piece position.

Dan Kemp has followed his great form from last year where he scored 10 goals and assisted four by scoring two and assisting one.

Whilst for the away side George Saville has been in decent form with three assists and one goal so far this season.

Nakhi Wells has fitted into the Hatters team nicely with one goal and two assists.

Prediction

Stevenage will be looking to kick on with the chance to go top following Bradford City’s draw on Thursday Evening. Playing in front of a sold-out crowd should help the Boro players to express themselves and get a positive result for their side.

Whilst Luton will be looking get back the form that made them a Premier League side just a couple of years ago.

I think in games like this form goes out the window but I think it will be the home side that pulls the victory in a tight affair that could potentially be decided by just a single goal. I’m going te way of Stevenage.
