Stoke City defender and captain Ben Wilmot has been ruled out for the rest of the season following an injury picked up on Saturday in their defeat at Swansea.
The 26-year-old limped out of defence after blocking a Zan Vipotnik clearance from a set piece as Mark Robins side hunted an equaliser.
After going off, he went for a scan on Sunday to assess the scale and damage of the injury sustained.
The former Coventry City manager confirmed Wilmot will not feature again this season as Stoke’s injury woes continue as they fall to 15th after back-to-back defeats.
Throughout the winter and festive period, the Potters had been condemned to several injuries which prevented them pushing on for a proper play-off charge.
Goalkeeper Viktor Johansson picked up an injury at the end of December which correlates to the downfall of Stoke’s form and Gavin Bazunu was signed on loan to cover but he started just one game before getting injured.
Junior Tchamadeu, Bosun Lawal, Lewis Baker, Robert Bozenik, Sam Gallagher and Divin Mubama are all names of Stoke players that have been injured throughout the winter period.
More recently, defenders Aaron Cresswell picked up an injury and Eric Bocat was subbed off against Swansea, but is believed to just be precautionary.
Mark Robins also confirmed that Stoke are experiencing some illness throughout the squad and this will impact certain players who will be available ahead of their game against Ipswich.
However, it was not confirmed which players would or would not be available and leaves a bit of mystery for Ipswich as they try and prepare for their visit to the Bet365 Stadium.
If it happens to be any star players that will be missing for the Potters, then it will leave the Stoke manager with several decisions to make, especially following the suspension of star winger Sorba Thomas.
Following a run of three wins in 15 for Mark Robins side, the realistic chance of playoffs have been and gone and are now going to have yet another below-par season.
It also looks like The Potters are going to endure an eighth successive season finishing without a Championship top half finish since relegation from the top flight.
