Founded in 1863 as Stoke Ramblers and based in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, Stoke City — nicknamed “The Potters” — became a founding member of the Football League in 1888. They won their only major national trophy by lifting the League Cup in 1972, defeating Chelsea 2‑1. The club played in the Premier League for ten consecutive seasons from 2008–09 to 2017–18 under Tony Pulis and Mark Hughes. Their home is the Bet365 Stadium since 1997, having previously spent 119 years at the Victoria Ground.
