Canadian striker set for Southampton medical

Canadian International to complete medical at Southampton after top scorer Adam Armstrong makes a move to Premier League side Wolves.

Southampton

According to news from Pete O’Rourke, Canadian striker Cyle Larin is making his way to Southampton. This move comes after Saints striker Adam Armstrong is to make a move to Premier League side Wolves.

Who is Cyle Larin?

Having previous spells at Besiktas and Club Brugge before making the switch to Spanish side Real Valladolid on loan, Larin ended up at Real Mallorca scoring seven goals in his first season at the club.

Although Mallorca are currently sat 18th and in the relegation zone in top Spanish top flight, Los Bermellones are still keen on the Canadian international staying out on loan for the rest of the 25-26 season

After making 15 appearances for Feyenoord, parent club Real Mallorca are willing to loan the 30 year old for the rest of the 25-26 season. With only 402 played minutes this season. Larin has only contributed one goal and assist this season.

With a lacklustre season Larin will need to be much more clinical to be given a chance at Southampton,

Is this a good move for Southampton?

A bold and extremely optimistic choice in addition to allowing Armstrong to depart means they lose the clubs top goal scorer this season for an underperforming 30 year old according to his xG and big chances created. This could come back to haunt the Saints if the forward cannot cement himself from the jump.

With a previous great spell at Besiktas as their top goalscorer in the 20-21 season he does have the ability to score goals. However I believe that this is the wrong direction for Southampton. With an already underwhelming and shocking season sat 14th and now losing their top scorer it seems to be going from bad to worse for The Saints
