Swansea City have announced the signing of Adam Idah half an hour before the transfer deadline. The Swans had been heavily linked with striker Richard Kone during the transfer window, but he recently signed for QPR and has hit the ground running in West London.
This will only divide opinion over the signing of Idah even further. Many people rate the Irishman but there are certainly those who don’t.
Idah joined Norwich City’s youth academy in 2017 and would remain with the Canaries until 2024. He was prolific at U18 and U23 level, but never quite managed to bring that form to the senior team.
The 2023/24 season would be his most successful in men’s football. He would score 7 goals in 34 appearances before being loaned out to Celtic in February.
At Celtic Park, he would score 9 goals and provide 2 assists in 19 games. At the end of that season, he would make his move to Celtic permanent, signing a five-year deal.
20 goals in 53 appearances in all competitions would be his return last time out. Which brings us to this season and the 24-year-old finds himself back in the Championship once again.
Can Idah Succeed For Swansea City?
As mentioned earlier, this signing will divide opinion, given that Idah has never really been able to cut it at Championship level thus far in his career. On top of that, he seemingly wasn’t their first-choice striker target.
Perhaps his time in Scotland will have given him a newfound confidence and he is now ready to showcase all the potential that he showed earlier in his career. Swansea manager Alan Sheehan spoke of Idah’s quality and experience, stating that he was “delighted to have secured his services.”
Swansea City have started the season well, currently sitting 7th in the table, having taken 7 points from 4 games.
