Hello and welcome to this weeks edition of Luke and Rob Predict, where we select 5 of the best fixtures from across the EFL and give our insight – providing you with statistics on the games whilst also giving our score prediction for the games themselves. Join us as we delve into this weekend’s crucial games. We Will begin as always with our Championship game.
Luke:
EFL Championship –
Portsmouth v Derby County –
17th v 21st meet in our Championship fixture for the weekend and only 3 points separates them going into this one. The home side are looking to get back to winning ways following their 2-1 defeat at Millwall last weekend whilst the away side are looking to build on their 0-0 draw with Burnley in midweek. Considering both defences are under-par and with both team scoring frequently, I can see a high-scoring draw between the two sides.
Luke’s Prediction – Portsmouth 2-2 Derby County
Rob:
In a game that could be billed as a relegation decider in a few weeks, Derby make the tough trip south to face fellow strugglers Portsmouth. The teams have won just 23 of a combined 82 games this season and I don’t see too much changing here. I’m going for a no score draw.
Rob’s Prediction: Portsmouth 0-0 Derby
Rob’s EFL League One Predictions –
Crawley vs Leyton Orient –
In a game that could affect both ends of the table, Leyton Orient make the tough trip to relegation-threatened Crawley. The home side sit 6 points adrift of safety so a win here would be huge for their chances of staying up. Orient will not just rollover though as they are just 5 points off making the playoffs and potentially a trip to Wembley and a chance to go up to the Championship.
Rob’s Prediction – Crawley 1-2 Leyton Orient
Barnsley vs Bolton –
This should be a game where both sides are up there, but results mean only one of them are, with Bolton 2 points off the playoffs after winning 2 of their last 3. The defeat to Rotherham in the week being the only blemish. Barnsley on the other hand sit down in 13th and are 14 points off the playoff positions with only 15 available. It would take a miracle for Barnsley be in that play off picture after gameweek 46, however, they will want to end the season strong. A Bolton win could catapult them into the playoffs though with just 4 games remaining after this week as they continue their resurgence under Steven Schumacher.
Rob’s Prediction – Barnsley 0-2 Bolton
Luke’s EFL League Two Predictions –
Doncaster Rovers v AFC Wimbledon –
My first prediction for League Two covers a crucial top of the table clash between 4th placed Doncaster and 5th placed Wimbledon with the home side having the opportunity to move into 2nd with a win before the 3pm kick-offs whilst the away side can leapfrog Rovers with a win respectively. Given the tight defensive nature of the Dons contrasted with the high scoring threat of the Reds, I can see a tight affair with a draw playing out between the two.
Luke’s Prediction – Doncaster Rovers 1-1 AFC Wimbledon
Chesterfield v Fleetwood –
10th v 13th meets in my second prediction with the home side looking to build on a draw in midweek whilst the away side look to bounce back from conceding 4 at home to Swindon last weekend. Both sides have earned 2 wins in their last 5 and Chesterfield have the highest goal scoring rate of the bottom 14. I can see this fixture being high scoring and think the home side will come out on top.
Luke’s Prediction – Chesterfield 3-1 Fleetwood
