Tom Cannon Could Be Heading For Preston North End

According to Alan Nixon, Preston North End are making a late move to sign former striker Tom Cannon on loan from Sheffield United.

The 22-year-old is predominantly a striker, but can play behind the striker as well. Tom Cannon came through the Everton Academy and completed his first loan spell at Preston North End in the 22/23 season, scoring 8 goals and picking up one assist in 21 appearances.

Last season on loan at Stoke City, the forward netted 11 goals and picked up one assist. Then the striker was recalled by Sheffield United in January and was only able to net one goal and pick up one assist in 17 appearances.

So far this season for the Blades, Tom Cannon has made 5 appearances, with him mostly coming off the bench for cameo performances.

Preston North End Starting Well and Where To Improve

As for Preston North End, who have started the season well after finishing 20th last season. They are currently in 9th position in the EFL Championship and currently sat on seven points. The former Preston man would add some more depth in attacking areas and add a serious goal scoring threat, as well as this, his soon-to-be new club aims to consolidate their good start to the season. Throughout Preston North End’s start to the season, they have won two matches in the League, drawn one, and lost one.

A player that holds a goal scoring threat could be what Preston North End need, with additional pressure added to their front two and more depth needed in that position.

With Preston North End lacked goals last campaign and ended up in a relegation scrap. Cannon could add more quality and increase the amount of goals they score.

At the age of 22, it is a good age, and Tom Cannon has already proven himself in the Championship with his loan spells at Stoke, for example, so he could make a positive impact straight away if he gets the service and Preston is the correct fit for him.
