Tom Cleverley has published the statement as he looks to address the criticisms currently surrounding him at Plymouth Argyle.

Plymouth Argyle Head Coach, Tom Cleverley, has issued an apology to the Green Army in his preview for his side’s trip to Peterborough on the weekend.

The 36-year-old picked up his second red card of the season in Plymouth Argyle’s 3-4 win against Bristol Rovers in the Vertu Motors Trophy – where he believed Lorent Tolaj to be fouled in a last ditch tackle from Alfie Kilgour, however the referee gave the decision the other way.

The manager reportedly exchanged words with the fourth official, along with verbal abuse towards the rest of the officiating team which led to him receiving his marching orders for a second time this campaign.

Cleverley previously received a red card after a similar offence in Plymouth Argyle’s 2-3 win over Luton Town in September – which made him unavailable for the Pilgrims 0-4 win over Burton Albion.

This suspension was not served directly after the Luton game, as Cleverley had also picked up another match ban after receiving 3 yellow cards.

This ban was served in Argyle’s 0-1 loss to, then strugglers, Peterborough United.

However, it’s not just at Plymouth Argyle where he’s had such disciplinary issues.

Cleverley accumulated enough yellow cards in the early stages of his reign at Watford, that led to him being suspended in their 2-2 draw against his current side Plymouth Argyle, in 2024.

Tom Cleverley has vowed to supporters that his fiery remarks on the touchline need to be “reined in” also stating that it “comes from a good place.”

Angry fans took to X questioning the authenticity of their head coach – who has previously damned his players discipline, when in reality, it’s his own discipline that he should be working on.

As Cleverley’s touchline ban is only eligible for the Vertu Trophy, Argyle will now be without their head coach for their Quarter Final tie – where they will find out their opponents on Saturday.
