Grimsby Town have confirmed the signing of Bradford City striker Andy Cook today on loan.
EFL League Two side Grimsby Town confirmed the signing of Bradford City striker Andy Cook on Monday afternoon.
This comes following an exclusive report by The Lower Tiers that Cook was set to sign for Grimsby.
This signing also follows the 35-year-old running out of contract at the end of the season at his previous club, Bradford City.
Now, it is considered that the signing of the former Mansfield Town man will most likely see him play in a starting role.
Therefore, here are a couple of things that both Grimsby and EFL fans in general should expect from Cook.
In signing the 35-year-old, the Mariners are gaining a player who possesses a clear attacking threat.
This judgment comes because he was in League Two last season, where he scored 15 goals and contributed to two assists prior to him picking up an ACL injury.
His statistics also show he made 63 shots, with 28 of these on target.
Furthermore, Cook had 111 touches in the opposition boxes during the 24/25 campaign.
These attacking statistics show the threat that the 35-year-old holds and the constant presence that he shows when facing opposition.
This could be especially useful during crossing situations and situations where the ball is played to him, which are common features of the Grimsby gameplay.
This can be seen through the fact that Town so far this season have a 22.7% successful cross rate.
Through the Englishman’s career, we can see that the forward has a wealth of experience, which you can see in his gameplay.
Throughout his time in League Two, he was able to make 214 appearances, which included his time at Bradford City and Mansfield Town.
Furthermore, at the start of last season, before his long-term injury with the Bantams, he was able to play a vital role in their automatic promotion to League One.
With these factors being considered, the addition of Cook will be on the surface brilliant for the Mariners as they look to climb up the table and hunt the playoffs.
